Over all Planning
Dar Restaurant Week was one of the best work that Fund A Child have pulled of since establishment. This event was a new gateway for many of us to move into new categories and pushing boundaries of what students can really do when coming to a CAS. Our idea as mentioned below was to target restaurants in Dar es Salaam to create a discounted menu that would be 20 per cent cheaper than usual from May 16th to May 23rd for people to experience the cheaper food. Each restaurant were to pay us a certain amount to enroll into Dar Restaurant Week, in return we were to advertise the restaurants for one weak, through this we can raise money as well as the restaurants can gain more customers. Through the process we were able to have 11 restaurants that signed up for the event along with 5 sponsors that helped make all of this possible.
Restaurants:
Akemi
Alcove
Belvedere
Bella Napoli
Cape Town Fish Market
Flames
Karambezi
Mainland China
Oriental
Rhapsody's
Shangrila
Sigree
Spur
Sponsors:
HelloFood
Continental Media
VClick Photography
Spik N Span
Advent
In general we were able to raise USD 4000 which raises enough funds to sponsor 16 girls for education with each girl costing 500,000 Tsh. Over the process of Dar Restaurant Week we also had various different ways to advertise to ensure that all the restaurants achieved sufficient advertising for the week. This was done through:
Website - Brilliant website that portrays the event and our purpose - www.darrestaurantweek.org
Billboards - 3 (2 in Masaki and 1 in Town)
Flyers - Over 500 distributed in heavy traffic mornings
Posters - Over 100 placed in Dar es Salaam
Facebook - Facebook with over 2800 likes so far (Facebook Page)
Instagram - More than 32 pictures with exciting information
Whatsapp Messages - A total of 10 broadcast messages within 4 days
Through this event we encountered many ups and downs, for example the last minute removal of a key sponsor, lack of communication between restaurants and FAC Team, restaurants saying no to the event, however we got over it. We learned a new way to look at things and different way to over come these challenges. One of the most important things that I have learnt from this experience is the importance of having a positive attitude and how that can change things. Through out this event I kept a positive attitude and we at the end overcame our challenges and excelled in what we needed to achieve.
Keeping someone as motivation is also very important, and for that I would like to thank my religious leader - Pramukh Swami - for always being there for me and always supporting me in whatever I do no matter what :)
